The Instagram algorithm wants to prioritize posts from your friends, family and accounts that you care about. So in order for Instagram to show you what you want (what you really, really want), the algorithm uses your interactions to piece together who is closest to you. So it’s great if you can support your favorite creative creators on Instagram.

This has been spreading everywhere, as I'm sure we all have seen.

This isn't quite 'new' as Instagram has been working like this and headed more in this direction for a while.

This is why it's gotten this way and what you should do if you want to reach the maximum reach for each post.

Each action you make on IG (Like - Comment - Share - Save - Scroll) is all measurable and the algorithm is using these actions to determine how "valuable" or "shareable" your post is.

Like

If someone likes your post, it tells the IG algorithm this post is worthy of a like.

Nice! Weellll, not really. That means someone is simply scrolling, glancing, then scrolling again.

Comment

If someone comments on your post, it tells IG this post is worth a comment, which means it's more valuable.

It stopped you from scrolling to say something, but only for a second.

Share

If someone shares it, it tells IG this post is soo valuable that is just NEEDS to be shared and spread to a larger audience.

Thus pushing IG to share this with even more people.

(P.s. If someone is bullying/trashing/sharing mean things and talking bad about you, sharing your stuff. They are in fact only helping you.

Save

This is the tiger's blood to winning. (Charlie Sheen joke) But really, this is the holy grail.

If someone saves your post it says that it was so valuable someone wants to "keep it forever."

The best part about this action is that it is private. So, those who don't like your posts because their @ may show up on the list can now support you in the best way possible, the save.

So the question remains...

How do I get my audience to save my post?

They need to provide something highly entertaining, or something educational.

-Tutorials

-Workouts

-Recipes

-Photo Inspirations

- Top 5 lists

- Quotes

- Fashion/outfits

Etc.

Think about what you want to get sent and what you share/save with your friends.

No more short-term value, all long-term.

If you are a fitness account, post workouts your followers can refer to when they go to the gym.

If you are an artist, share your workflow, share your inspiration.
